Winged film cameras hover close to the Greta Garbo cutout. They are objective observers, “recording angels” representing the unaffected truth. Ever wanting to present a “good face,” this piece continues the dialogue that’s found throughout the Cinéma Vérité series.
We spend a lot of effort on the image we present to the world. Sometimes we seek fortune and fame, a certain number of likes or maybe the responses of a hundred digital friends. Maybe all we need is a little validation.
This piece asks, “how am I being influenced?” By whom or what? Who do I let in that sacred space? It’s about self-image and motivation. Who am I influencing? Why?
My reoccurring number three appears as a grounding yellow blue icon. The bone and the “haloed” skull are the memento mori. It’s a reminder that life is much more real when viewed beyond the performance; much more real with all of its surprises, textures, layers and hues.
