Oh, what a treat this one is. Painted on a sturdy World War II–era Samsonite travel case, it carries a life from before. One side reveals a whimsical, beautiful, dangerous mermaid in my classic throwback to 1930s animation. The other leans into pure ocean humor, three jellyfish drifting through crackling turquoise flashes, almost electric.
The uniqueness of the case makes it truly one of a kind. It comes from that moment when I was beginning to bring in color and fully immerse myself in painting on found, storied objects.
