A quaint and beautiful print from the time I was just beginning to introduce color into my work. Topknot carries the spirit of Seven Samurai and the films of Akira Kurosawa, all those samurai stories that stayed with me from my youth and early film days.

This gorilla samurai has a wild look in his eye, with the slightest mischievous ronin grin on his face. He knows if the sword is drawn, it won’t return without consequence. It’s all in the eyebrows, in that steady, charged gaze, a quiet readiness to do what must be done.
