An earlier, bizarro iteration of these monkeys. They're not Rig and Rex, but they've got a wild kind of life to them, like small gibbons fighting for honor, for love, for something that's been passed down through generations.

It feels like a story from long ago, even within my retro animation world, a myth, a legend, an epic clash they still recall. Who doesn't love monkeys with swords? Inspired by an old Victorian etching of dueling monkeys, I had to bring it into full color and give it my own twist with mixed media, broken hearts, stolen jewels, and a definite chip on their shoulders.

Full of energy, movement, and humor, the kind of piece that holds a room and starts a conversation.
